Armour Transportation Systems was founded by Mr. Gordon Armour in the early 1940’s, using his truck to haul hay and gravel out of Taylor Village, a small farming community located 20 miles outside of Moncton, NB.
Throughout the 1940’s and 1950’s, the operation generally consisted of hauling gravel locally and loading hay for delivery to various points in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. In the 1950’s, the hay business tapered off and Gordon started hauling for Kraft Foods and a number of commodities, including Christmas trees destined to the USA. He started a trucking business, GM Armour & Son Ltd, and, in 1955, was granted a general freight and motor carrier licence for most points in New Brunswick.
It was extremely important to Gordon that he provided customers with quality service. While it sometimes meant a Sunday delivery or unloading into the early morning hours, he established a reputation for his honesty and high quality of service.
Gordon’s son Wesley, our current President and CEO, joined the company in 1966. At this time, the business consisted of 10 straight trucks and 11 employees. Two years later Gordon Armour retired and Wes acquired the company at the age of 22, becoming responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organization. The company grew by offering and maintaining excellent service, remaining flexible, staying true to our commitments and continually creating solutions that meet our customer’s needs.
